Schauss 10TV Athlete of the Week

Earlier this week, following a 5-2 win over St Ignatius to take the 2025 OHSAA State Championship, senior captain William Schauss was selected as the 10TV Athlete of the week.  Schauss, a four-year varsity player, is among the few who was a team member and can recall the Golden Bears' last run at the state title three years ago.  That bid fell just short, losing in the Frozen Four semi-final round.

This year, a senior-heavy roster led by Schauss and his fellow captains, set an early goal of surpassing that performance.  The Bears would go on to become the first group to crest past the semi-finals and make it to the championship.

On Sunday, the Golden Bears took on St Ignatius who prevailed over St Francis in overtime to meet in the championship.  Play remained scoreless through the first period as junior goaltender, Mason Herndon turned in a stellar performance.  The Bears took a one-goal lead in the second, but opened up that lead scoring four unanswered goals in the third.  St Ignatius mounted a valiant effort in the final minute of the game, managing to slip two past the Bears for a final score of 5-2.

When asked, Schauss commented "Coming up short freshman year, this is just amazing, I can't describe it."  He went on to say, "It doesn't feel real, I mean, I bet it will set in tomorrow, but its just amazing.  Words can't describe the feeling."
